Fortuna is seeking a resource experienced with mainframes and Java for a legacy system transformation initiative. You will be a key part of modernizing legacy mainframes and integrating with Java-based applications. Candidates must be U.S. citizens with deep technical experience with legacy and contemporary development frameworks.
Position: Java/Mainframe Solutions Architect
Worksite: Remote (Occasional travel to Ohio facility)
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday
Compensation: $90.00/hour - $100.00/hour
Employment Type: W2 - Must be a US citizen

WHAT YOU'LL DO:
Analyze and debug existing mainframe systems to identify and resolve technical issues
Lead efforts to transition legacy mainframe infrastructure to modern platforms while ensuring business continuity
Design, develop, and maintain Java applications that interface with modernized systems
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver technical solutions aligned with business objectives
Mentor junior developers on best practices in both mainframe and Java technologies
Document system designs, specifications, and maintain records of updates and changes
Ensure adherence to development standards, coding practices, and security guidelines
WHAT YOU'LL BRING:
Required Qualifications:
U.S. citizenship is required
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related field
Strong experience with mainframe technologies (e.g., COBOL, PL/1, Natural)
Proven track record in Java application development
Proficiency in debugging and resolving issues in complex systems
Experience with system migration and modernization projects
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
CompTIA Security+ certification
Certifications in mainframe and Java technologies (e.g., IBM Certified Specialist, Oracle Certified Java SE Developer)
Familiarity with cloud platforms and DevOps methodologies
Experience using automated migration tools and legacy DevOps toolsets
Exposure to modern development stacks such as .NET, microservices, and data analytics platforms
